ESTE is a short film that follows the daring adventure of Mika Fält. Getting spastic cerebral palsy at the age of three, Mika has always faced life's challenges head-on. His condition affects the left side of his body, impairing fine motor skills but not his indomitable spirit. Despite these challenges, Mika sets his sights on a formidable goal: to summit and ski down Marmolejo, a prominent 6,108-meter volcano in Chile.
Although Marmolejo is considered a relatively manageable climb, its high altitude poses a significant obstacle, amplified by Mika’s physical condition. The film captures the ascent itself, highlighting the physical and emotional struggles involved in such an extraordinary endeavor.
Joining Mika on this epic journey are Juho Lukkari, an experienced IFMGA mountain guide, and filmmaker Joonas Mattila, who documents every moment of this expedition. Eero Nieminen's immersive sound design enhances the harrowing and beautiful landscapes that dominate the backdrop of Mika’s journey.
ESTE is not just a film about mountain skiing; it’s a testament to human resilience and the pursuit of dreams against all odds. It invites viewers to witness the strength of the human spirit through Mika Fält’s eyes as he challenges both nature and his own limitations.
